Born and raised in Milwaukee, I didn’t started mixing till the age of 22. My friend DJ Hitman went on a long vacation and let me hold on to his Technic 1200’s along with like 1000 crates of records. True story! The 1200’s were platinum plated with diamond studded needles. You know how you put a nickle to weight down the needle and prevent it from skipping? I had diamonds on my mine baby! So anyways, I took heart to them 1200’s. Couldn’t mix for jack though. I lost interest and tricked the 1200’s off for a weekend in Vegas of sex, gambling and booze. So my friend got out…um, I mean came back from vacayion and I told him that the 1200’s got stolen. He believed me. My next set of turntables were some Numarks. Picked them up from some fiend for like $15 and 2 newports loosies. They came with a couple of crates of records. For some reason I picked up on the concept of mixing alot easier on the Numarks. Maybe because of the reduce distraction from not being platinum or diamond studded. I knew I couldn’t get much for them. A DJ was born!
I made promotional mixtapes for about another year bustin out Sounds of Love part 2, 3 and 4 before opening my own music store here in Milwaukee. In 1995 “Pop’s House of Music” was opened up. The store went well. It was more of a place to hang out and be around the people that I loved to be around. I got to meet a few celebreties as well. I Had Lil Suzy over for my Grand Opening. Later on we threw a concert with Cynthia and Legacy. DJ Scribble came along with Cynthia and gave a special performance. Good looking Scribble. I brought over K-7 and The Swing Kids for my 25th B-day. Other appearances in my store were Funkdoobiest and also George Lamond with whom I performed out in Racine once. What’s up George! Holla at ya boy! I know him…honest! I did promote a few smaller events bringing down DJ’s like Bobby-D, Alan BaddMixx and Julian Jumpin Perez. Concert promotion was something I wanted to do from when I was 12 or 13 years old trying to get in the gigs thrown by Smokin-Tuff Enterprises from 91.7 FM WMSE. Smokin Pachich was givin it to you on a Mighty Mello Monday. Too Tuff Tony had you faded on the Hump of the Week Wednesday. Later on Questell Productions consisting of Felix Questell and younger brother Fransisco Questell, who was a DJ, started bringing the Hot-Mix Five down. I remember going to a gig that had Pablo “Punkout” Gonzalez and Julian “Jumpin” Perez. That was like in 1985 and 1986. An unexpected and trajic death of Fransisco Questell in 1987 ended the concert promotions by Questell Productions for the rest of the 80’s. Everyone seemed to want to respect Felix Questell. In 1992, with the help of Felix Questell, I brought down Julian “Jumpin” Perez, which turned out good. DCP ( D-Cut Productions-consisting of Angel Babyboy and D-Cut) would follow through with a string of concerts bringing down White Night, Bad Boy Bill and quite a few more acts. They were throwing gigs once a month. I never went though. I was hating at the time. Ok, I went to a couple. In 1995 they brought down their last act which was Lil Suzy who did my Grand Opening. Hey! I said that already. See I wasn’t lying. I did have a brinks truck with me in Chicago. I followed through with the few concerts in 1995 that I had mentioned and it has pretty much been quite around these neck of the woods since . I believe acts like George Lamond and Stevie-B have been brought down by local Club owners. I couldn’t make them though. I had nothing to wear, I had to work and my moms was sick. Ok…my girl wouldn’t let me
