A qucik QandA with Qburns

Who Influenced You ?
Trevor Horn, The Velvet Underground, Brian Eno, Meat Beat Manifesto, seeing
Derrick May spin records in 1991.

What do you like most about djing ?

The dancefloor is more important to the gig than the DJ. It can (should) be
an ego-less art.

Where do you think djing will be in the Future ?
Hopefully in a place that will still include round, black, circular things
about twelve inches wide.

If you could mix any party which would it be ?
Basically any party in San Francisco.

The last song you just listened to ?
The songs on Jona Bechtolt’s France Culture show featuring friends of Blow.

Where have you spun ?
Here and there.

Best party ?
The last time I DJ’ed in South America. The next best party will be the next
time I play in South America. And so on …

Worst party ?

Probably the time in Atlanta when I cut my foot and hobbled into the club to
play and then realized I was booked by accident at a hip hop night. And I
couldn’t run.

Top 5 Favorite CUTS OF ALL TIME ³any genere²

“To Here Knows When” by My Bloody Valentine
“Higher Than The Sun (A Dub Symphony In Two Parts)” by Primal Scream
“Naïve Melody” by Talking Heads
“1995″ by Radio Dept.
“Toadies” by The Minutemen

Venues You have mixed
Quite a few … I started in 1989.

what gear do u prefer
For DJ’ing? Honestly, I like to just show up and work with what is there.
Different gear and surprise situations make for a new and spontaneous set
each time.

What did you start on
Some terrible dirt covered Tascam 4 track (it wasn’t a DJ mixer), two
turntables that wouldn’t stay on pitch, and no monitor. This was actually my
first club residency way back when. Trial by fire.
