Q: Who Influenced You ?
A: Bad Boy Bill, Mike “Hitman” Wilson, Julian “Jumpin” Perez and Frankie “Hollywood” Rodriquez
Q: What do you like most about djing ?
A: Honestly, the control. (That sounds so rude) For real, I enjoy knowing that the beats i choose will control the way the crowd jumps…
Q: Where do you think djing will be in the Future ?
A: Hmmm. I’d like to be downtown Chi with the bigwig DJs, especially the old school DJs.
Q: If you could mix any party which would it be ?
A: That’s a toss up. I’d like to dominate the main room at Crobar, and I’d like to spin every weekend on B-96.
Q: The last song you just listened to ?
A: Jam On It by Newcleus..(yeah I’m sweatin to the oldies, ain’t I?)
Q: Where have you spun ?
A: I spun wads of house parties in Elgin, Dekalb, Aurora and Rockford throughout the 90’s..(back then my name was DJ KARTOON)
Q: Best party ?
A: A place called the Blue Lite house in Dekalb, Illinois. It was a revamped frat house right by NIU. The place was jam packed, like sardines. It got so damn hot, the walls were sweating, no joke. I played ALL old school that night and the people went INSANE…that party was back in 2001 and I played tracks from the early 90s.
Q: Worst party ?
A: A place called THE DUNGEON in Dekalb. Too many people showed up rolling, and the cops shut it down fast.
Q: Top 5 Favorite CUTS OF ALL TIME “any genera”?
A: Percolator by Cajmere (Duh)
Booty Call by DJ Sneak/Fast Eddie
War by Mark V. & Poogie Bear
Yolanda by Reality
Get Down Everybody by Holy Noise
Q: Venues You have mixed ?
A: Lots of house parties, a few underground raves in BuFu, and some clubs in Dekalb.
Q: What is HOTTEST club you HAVE ever BEEN ?
A: In my opinion (and it’s an old school opinion) the best place I have ever clubbed at was called Discovery in Elgin, Illinois. But back then, the people that went to the clubs have five times more energy and enthusiasm than the club crowd today. We ate, slept and would breathe the club scene. Period. The Paladrome in Palatine would have to be a close 2nd.
Q: What gear do u prefer ?
A: Sony MVR Headphones, Technic Mk12s, Numark mixer, Stanton needles and stax and stax of vinyl!!
Q: What gear did you start on ?
A: This is embarassing…but hey, we were all ghetto when we first started, right? I had mismatched decks - One Gemini and One Technic. Ugh…I don’t miss that combo for a minute.
Q: Who is your Favorite Dj of ALL TIME ?
A: Are you serious? There’s only one DJ Chicago ranks as it’s favorite - BAD BOY BILL!! And I’m not a new idiot fan of his. I have all the HOT MIX tapes to prove it! Yeah!!
Q; 2nd Favorite
A: The guy that helped Bill sharpen his skills, Julian Perez.
Q; If you could work with any musician living or dead who would u choose ?
A: Bad Boy Bill. Cuz he’s like family to me…like a buddy I grew up with since I was 14.
