Dj Maurice Halsted

By admin | August 13, 2008

Maurice Halsted began like every other dj by mixing in his basement and gaining exposure through small house parties. These parties soon provided a window of opportunity to participate in various DJ battles and local exposure. To continue gaining momentum and popularity, mixes were sent to WBBM FM Chicago’s B-96 for the Street Flava and 88.1 WCRX. Live mixes were also done on Loyola’s radio station 88.7 every Thursday night on Technofilia.

Maurice Halsted spins in the city and premiers at various night clubs/cities both in and outside of the US. This has boasted his international recognition while continuing to fuel his drive for starting something different. Maurice Halsted continues to rattle the crowds with the intense sounds of progressive, techno and house music. Live shows are also done in conjunction with WuLi Records and Clubheadz Recordings. The WuLi Records events are primarily hip-hop and feature live performances. His infamous “What do you know about this” phrase has caught the attention of many clubheadz.

Maurice Halsted has also been a part of the ever growing Mortal Kombat series. He provided motion capture for multiple Mortal Kombat video games and has completed a mini series in China, starring Jet Li entitled San Da Wang. These games include MK 4, MK5, MK6, Shaolin Monks,Annihilation and currenly preparing for MK8. You can also catch Maurice Halsted in the R-Kelly video, Thoia Thoing and Wuli Records’ release of their video collection. Maurice Halsted is opening for Ice Cube on July 29, 2006 in Stateline, NV. This could be the first step in opening for over 40 platinum artists. He currently does parties for Clubheadz Entertainment and CSG. These venues include the Get Funk’d Fridayz events hosted by Clubheadz Entertainment and specialized events which currently include Vision (CSG), John Barleycorn and Transit.

“My style consists of adding various house classics to newer techno/dance tracks. Classics never die and they seem to add an edge in building familiarity with crowds who don’t like/appreciate techno music. Many people remember the classic songs and although the background music is harder, the house classics tend to shine and create new opportunity for education. Knowledge is a power, familiarity creates comfort, but education is priceless.”-MH

Dj Cruze

By admin | August 13, 2008

DJ Cruze

Who is he?
DJ Cruze is better known as Marc Littlemore and was born in a small town called Frodsham in Cheshire, England. He now resides in Didsbury, Manchester.

Humble beginnings
His love of electronic music started at an early age when he was introduced to the Streetsounds “Electro” compilations in the mid 80s. His introduction to electro and hip-hop forged his love for both funky and electronic music. Listening to Radio 1’s Jeff Young, the predecessor to Pete Tong, on Friday evenings encouraged him to create push-button cassette mixes and started his vinyl buying habit. Trying to embrace the early hip-hop culture he realised that his rapping skills were terrible and his graffiti equally as bad so he turned to the only thing left to do; DJ. On a belt-driven pair of Soundlab turntables and a Radioshack mixer he started to learn to mix and scratch. Surprisingly he became quite good and his mix-tapes got passed around the schoolyard.

Manchester is in the house
A move to Manchester to study Computer Science at the university gave Marc a new found freedom to party. Manchester’s thriving club scene allowed him to spend all of his money on vinyl and parties. He DJ’ed at various student bars and clubs in the city and these parties helped him to learn his crowd-pleasing skills. In 1992 a chance meeting of mutual friends introduced Marc to his long-term DJ’ing partner Mark Wyss aka DJ Vuish. As Vuish was studying in Mannheim it proved the perfect opportunity for DJ Cruze mix-tapes to enter the Germany and for Mannheim’s clubbers to be introduced to “Manchester House”; a fine blend of funky UK and US house.

And so to Germany
Germany loved the sound and DJ Cruze was invited to perform at the Milk Club in Mannheim, the XS Club in Frankfurt and the Om Club in Heilbronn. From this the partnership of Cruze and Vuish was born and it began a 5 year residency at the legendary Vibration Club in Forst. They both continued to DJ in the UK too and held residencies and guest spots in some of Manchester’s finest venues including The Haçienda, DNA, 2Kinky and Home.

The future
Although DJ Vuish decided to take a break from DJ’ing, DJ Cruze continues to this day playing a funky mix of house music, electro and breakbeats and anything else that will rock a party! On top of this he layers his turntable skills showing off his scratching and beat juggling magic. He is also busy in the studio trying to finally finish off the tracks that he has had in his head for the past 10 years!

Musical Style
In the words of James Brown - “…it’s got to be funky…”. House music is the order of the day but any variations on a theme will be thrown onto the turntables. Funky house, electro, breakbeats, deep house. If it’s good I’ll play it! Added on top is some funky scratching and cut-ups which help to rock the dancefloor.

Residencies and guest appearances
Some of the clubs where DJ Cruze has played. There are more but his memory isn’t great!
