Who Influenced You ?
I’m influenced by a lot of different things (from Rare Funk to Hip-Hop, Old
School house & Techno, Rave/Drum&Bass…). People or bands like Public
Enemy, Run DMC, Todd Terry, Bomb The Bass, KLF or Mantronix are certainly a
few that influenced me a lot.
What do you like most about djing / producing ?
I’m DJ since the age of 14 and started to make electronic tracks 10 years
later, so I’m definitely DJ before all. I like the exchange with the crowd,
I do love to interact with the public. Making a crowd happy dancing on my
music is so exciting and I’ll never be tired of it!
Your Thoughts on vinyl vs mixing software ?
I’m definitely a vinyl junkie for years. I’m still mixing with vinyls
although I use tools like Serato Scratch Live, but always with the vinyl
feeling. It’s still very important for me to have this feeling. A lot of
young dj’s are using more and more softwares but sometimes it seems to be a
bit too “formatted”. Anyway the most important thing is the music, not
really the gear you’re into!
The last song you just listened to ?
John Coltrane “My Favorite Things” ! I’m a big fan of Jazz music since the
youngest age.
Top 5 Favorite CUTS OF ALL TIME ?any genera?
Ha ha I just added that Face book application two days ago, and it was really
difficult to choose only five. Let me pick these ones:
1. James Brown ‘In The Jungle Groove LP’,
2. Public Enemy ‘Fear of a Black Planet’,
3. Prodigy ‘Music for the Gilted Generation’,
4. John Coltrane ‘Giant Steps’
5. Run DMC ‘Beats to the Rhyme’
*Where have you spun ?*
I live in Belgium and I think I played everywhere here, in every clubs,
Festival.. I also played in UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
*Best party ?*
There’s a lot of good parties in my mind. I’d say 5 or 6 years ago when I
ended a big event in Brussels in front of 3000 peeps, rewinding 3 times the
same track as the last one of the night, awesome!
*Worst party ?*
hmm.. when the place is empty, nobody except in the bars and the bouncers,
and a the end the promoter says that you’ll be not paid… It’s really rare
now but it still happens sometimes and it’s a real nightmare.
*what gear do u prefer to mix on ?
Technics vinyl turntables nr. ONE! I admit I use the Pioneer CDJ more and
more since it’s great tools to bring something cool to your sets.
What gear did you start on?
Really old and crappy turntables, 20 years ago. It was really good to learn
though!
*If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be ?
less bullshit
