The Future is DJ / VDJ Software ! A few years ago I was talking with a software developer about an idea I had for touch screen software with DJ software that detects the movement of the users hand. What was mind-blowing is that the company he work for was trying to make something like that with a glove the for detection of hand movement. Think of it as the same idea that the Nintendo Wii is now using for the controllers. I can write an article on this…hehe

Dj KiRiLL
By admin | August 13, 2008
Pete Kirill, aka DJ Kirill, originates from the town of Darien, Ct., where his early musical interests were rooted in New York City hip-hop and house. With only a forty-five minute train ride to the city, Kirill would spend his Saturdays digging through record shops in Soho for mix tapes from New York’s finest underground DJ’s.
At age 16, he purchased his first set of turntables and began mixing hip-hop and house, making his own mix tapes that he would hand out to friends.
In 1994, Kirill moved to Chicago where he pursued a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This is where Kirill found inspiration and fell in love with underground house music.
Internationally known for it’s rich music culture, Chicago has produced some of the world’s finest house DJ’s and producers. DJ’s such as Derrick Carter, Gene Ferris, and house legend, Frankie Knuckles all call Chicago home.
Inspired by local and international talents, Kirill formed his own unique mixing style. His hard work and determination landed him his first club residency in 1998, at Chicago’s infamous Dragon Room with the Ginseng Promotions. Kirill was at The Dragon Room every Friday night, and this was the launching pad for his career.
After his first residency, Kirill’s high-energy house sets were sought by other respected venues throughout the city. Red No. 5, Kustom, and The Drink, are just a few of the clubs that hosted Kirill.
In 2002, Kirill broke through the local Chicago scene and went international. He played at clubs in Paris, (La Faberique,) Luxembourg, (Tour De France electronic music festival) and Cancun, (The Full Moon Party).
During 2003, Kirill began working on a music project in Havana, Cuba fusing house music with afro-Cuban percussion. With the help of French producer Jean Claude and the Cuban group Sin Palabras(Náive Records), Project Cuba was born.
Project Cuba is a live act where Kirill mixes funky house, while Sin Palabras layers Cuban percussion over the his music. The project quickly gained international interest and began touring around the globe.
Project Cuba has been published in Epok Magazine, WAD Urban Music Magazine, and Big Shot Magazine. Their music has also been featured on La Nova Radio, Paris. It was during this time that Kirill decided to move to Miami Beach and continue his work in Cuba.
DJ Kirill’s work in Havana has had a great impact on his music production and mixing style. In 2004, he began a remix project with Sin Palabras. Working with DJ/producers Sattva and The Surrogate, Kirill released his first record, “Project Cuba.”
The release featured a house remix of Sin Palabras tracks “Cuban E-Fusion” and “House of Yema.” The record was well received and gained Kirill international respect as a producer. Soon after its release, Project Cuba made its way onto Chris Fortiers Balance Promote Group record chart, putting it into the sets of DJ’s around the world.
In Febuary of 2005, DJ Kirill landed himself a residency at the Miami nightclub, The District, mixing his unique blend of funky house with Latin percussion every Saturday night.
Currently, Kirill has teamed up with Brooklyn DJ David Pierce and St. Louis DJ Rafi to form 610 Dean Promotions. The trio currently organize music events at clubs in New York, Miami Beach, and St. Louis.
DJ KIRLL DISCOGRAPHY
HAVANA HOUSE
The Ouim netlabel describes Havana House as “the Buena Vista Social Club meets Mark Farina” which is as accurate a comparision that you may ever see. Miami resident DJ Kirill lays down house electronica over a tasty sampling of Afro-Cuban tunes and beats. Kirill has a deft touch driving a sensual and dancable groove over the samples. However, it is the vocals and percussion of Cuban band Sin Palabras that fuels the samples and really makes this album move. Authentic Afro-Cuban rhythms and chilled out electric vibes is an exotic mix that is hard to beat. This electronica / world music hybrid is a treat for your mind and feet.

2. DJ Kirill - Cuban E Fusion (Kirill vs. The Surrogate)
3. DJ Kirill - House of Yema (Kirill vs. Sattva)
4. DJ Kirill - House of Yemaya (House Mix)
5. DJ Kirill - Cuban eFusion (Tribal Mix)

Dj Mentor
By admin | August 13, 2008
Mentor is a 26 year old House DJ/Producer from New Jersey USA. He began his journey in the art of DJing 6 years ago. Becoming one of the areas most talented artists.
His talent behind the decks has been expressed throughout many NJ/NYC nightclubs. Mentor’s passion for House music and DJing came at the early age of 8 when he witnessed one of his older cousins’, who was also a House DJ, manipulating a pair of vinyl records together. This event never left Mentor’s mind or heart. It was at this point in time that it became a dream for Mentor to become a DJ.
While other children his age wished for toys and such he would wish for a set of turntables and a mixer every christmas. Unfortunately for Mentor’s family money was an issue and no matter how much he hoped the wish did not come true. When it was time to go to bed at night Mentor would grab his pair of headphones and blast the music from his cousins mixtapes or Hot97’s Saturday night dance party aired on FM during the late 80’s early 90’s, fantasizing to one day be in front of a crowd playing music. Years went by and Mentor got older never losing hope to one day live out his dream of becoming a DJ. Influenced by the Hip Hop culture, Mentor began doing graffiti at the early age of 12 where his “tag name, MENTOR” was created.
By the age of 16 he was wanted by authorities for painting his tag name on one too many walls. After going through the legal system and facing criminal charges for defacing others property and getting a large number of fines, Mentor realized it was time for a change. He got a job to pay the fines and began to save his money.
Finally after saving enough he went out and purchased his first set of Technic 1200’s. He began to practice diligently perfecting his skills, beginning with his first set of Trance records in the late 90’s to then evolving his style to Tech-House and Techno from 2000-2002.
with influences like Carl Cox, Ben Sims, Ritchie Hawtin, Oscar G, Danny Tenaglia, and Peace Division to name a few. He began to throw House parties with his friends to showcase his skill and be heard. Finally after sometime he began to work with a local NJ promoter in 2002 landing him spots throughout NJ/NYC: at places in NJ: such as Euphoria Lounge in Bloomfield, Green Man Lounge in Hoboken, Boo Boo’s/Cadillac Bar in Hoboken, The Relic in Newark, Jumbalayas in Union, Traxx Lounge in Lyndhurst, Paradox in Plainfields, the Portuguese Feast in Ironbound Newark,Taste Lounge in Belleville & in NYC: Cream, Go, Coda, Chateau, Mod, El Patio, Flow, Lobby, Avalon (in the chapel and spider room) and at Exit’s Red Room.
Unfortunately for Mentor during the time of these bookings the majority of the crowds were leaning towards Hip Hop.
So Mentor decided it was time to seek his crowd by promoting himself on his own. He began a Progressive Tribal House mix cd series to expose his talent.
He began to get hundreds of request’s for his mixes. Finally catching the attention of many local NJ/NYC promoters he began to do guest spots at some of the area’s most seeked out venues such as: Deko Lounge in Sayreville,NJ opening for Richie Santana, Club Abyss in Sayreville NJ, Fuel Afterhours in Newark, NJ alongside Mario Calegari, Flight in Newark, Pacha NYC, Bassmint Sessions alongside Ohzee & the Butcha, the Portugal Day Feast in Ironbound Newark 05′ 06′ alongside many talented artists includiing Rob Mirage, Mario Calegari, Richie Santana, Premo, Danny Way, Ray Briones to name a few, and Gypsy Tea, NYC alongside Vinny Rue, Rik Santiago, and Fabricio Moraes.
oday Mentor continues working even harder by stepping into the world of music production. Having armed himself with a Mac computer and some groundbreaking music production programs there’s no telling what will come out from his mind and heart and into the ears of his already growing fanbase. We can only expect to hear more from this talented artist in the future so just be sure to listen..

Who Influenced You ? I would have to say in the beginning it would have have Frankie Bones, Josh Wink, Marshall Jefferson and dj dan. They were big influences back in the day, but I started out with Techmaster P.E.B and old miami bass style back in the mid to late 90’s.
What do you like most about djing ? It is very relaxing
Where do you think djing will be in the Future ? Not really sure havn’t done much djing these days, been working on studio stuff and working on events with some friends.
If you could mix any party which would it be ? Love Parade, i guess one reason for that is I’m German, so it would give me a good reason to visit Germany.
The last song you just listened to ? Cierto Es by DJ Hoffanna featuring Chica Loca
Where have you spun ? not many places
Best party ? I would have to say the best party in Alabama i’ve ever been to was Aquaboogie that my crew Solutions threw back in 2000..3 rooms and a river boat..but the best one overall was one In Atlanta,GA
What is HOTTEST club you HAVE ever BEEN ? The hottest club i’ve been to would have to be Nicki Beach Club in Miami, i just like the atmosphere there.
what gear do u prefer ? well when i get back into djing again, i’m def going with 2 Technic 1200’s, 1 Pioneer DJM-800 and Serato running on a decent laptop
What gear did you start on ? i started out on some Numark decks, with a numark mixer i belive.
If you could change one thing about Djing what would it be ? more day shows, music isn’t just for the nightlife.
If you could change one thing about the WORLD what would it be ? I would change the perception on the electronic music culture in the media as being portrayed as drug users and I would make the music more commercial in the US, which some markets it is but not where I’m from.

Anthony Foster

Who Influenced You ?
Oh there have been so many and they’ve been ever-changing throughout the years. As a young, grasshopper in the late 80’s and early 90’s, I only had access to radio DJ’s such as Bad Boy Bill, Julian Perez… the WBBM fm street mix DJ’s. At the same time, when I got my start, I got to work closely with DJ Wizz Kid Walter and Josh “The Funky One” Hobbs. This was when (in my opinion), real house music was being played commercially. In time and as I grew older, I was introduced to Underground House music by co-worker Acidman. Listening closely to what he was doing in 1994, I shifted my focus onto DJ’s like Mark Almaria, Mike Dearborn, Lego, Justin Long, Mike Huckaby, Terry Mullan, Ian Pooley, Slater Hogan, Paul Johnson, Miles Maeda, Mark Farina and many other Dj’s I had access to @ “Rave” parties as I was still too young to enter the club-scene. Once old enough, I continued to listen to my favorties and found more and more. I’m influenced every day by the DJ’s who helped me plant my roots. Nowadays, I really enjoy Pete Moss, J-Phlip and Karl Almaria.
What do you like most about djing ?
I feel there is a sense of magic and spirituality directly related to djing. Aside from finding those ‘perfect blends’, I deeply enjoy the relationship a DJ has with a dancefloor crowd. Breaking out a record you hope no one has played yet and watching the dancers react… or even seeing that one person off in the corner of the room bobbing their head in silent approval. Creating a new sound, even if for only a few minutes, brings me joy when bringing tracks together. I love all the history involved in the DJ world and the evolution the industry has continued to grow on.
Where do you think djing will be in the Future ?
In the future, I am hoping to see this artform remain unchanged and untainted by new-jacks who have never seen or played a 12″ record. I would like to see more opportunities available to up-and-comers with talent. I believe there will always be a demand for DJ’s and that we will heal the world (or even a small community), with house music culture.
If you could mix any party which would it be ?
It has been my absolute goal for many years to play a set at Smartbar. To me, Smartbar is an institution and a staple for Chicago House Music. The people who frequent Smartbar are there for one thing… the music and aren’t sidetracked by the b.s. of an unecessary dress code, insane cover charge, guest-list lines and minimum drink purchases. To me, Smartbar holds true to the house music community and culture and that’s what keeps me coming back and going nowhere else.
The last song you just listened to ?
Haaa. It’s a far cry from house music, but I last played Maroon 5’s “Makes Me Wonder” in my last dance class. (I’m also a dance teacher and choreographer).
Where have you spun ?
Some clubs include: Shadowbar/Redno 5/Beviamo/Oasis Cafe/Northbeach/Fabriq @ The Roundhouse/Red Star Tavern. Lot’s of raves in the late 90s and early 2k (back when I was “Disko”) and a spot on 89.3fm, @ Dolton Expo/Route 66/The Black Hole/Cavalini’s at parties such as: Here Comes The Sun/The Four Horsemen/Liquid Combat/Benevolence/Rave In The Shell and many others that have been lost in the colorful blur of ‘raveland’.
Best party ?
That’s a toughie. There have been far too many good ones to just pick one. I am going to have to say I most enjoyed “Tetsuo” by the former Shadefree Prods.
What is HOTTEST club you HAVE ever BEEN ?
Glitz and Glamour mean nothing to me in regards to clubs. I hold true to my all time favorite, Smartbar and the former Red Dog Monday nights.
what gear do u prefer ?
Hands down, my tech 12’s, Pioneer DJM 800, any Ortofon cartridge/stylus combo, Pioneer CDJ 800/1000 and Technics DH-1200 headphones.
What gear did you start on ?
Oh this is funny! I had a mismatched pair of turtables and a radioshack/realistic analog mixer. The kind that had the volume meter needles that would bounce in an arc. The decks were a belt-driven, late model Technics and a sad Pioneer direct drive (even later model), turntable. Both of ‘em had horrible pitch-control, but I made the best of what I could! Made me respect my even slighter upgrade to (go aheda and laugh), the Gemini SL-BD10’s. At least they matched!
If you could change one thing about Djing what would it be ?
I would go back in time and ambush the creation of digital DJ software. I completely understand the convenience of it all…I really do. Especially when it comes to established DJ’s working multiple nights and doing alot of travel. However, there are far too many young, new-jacks relying on software that either have never played, nor owned a vinyl record or thought it was “too hard”.
If you could change one thing about the WORLD what would it be ?
That’s simple. Universal awareness that will forever wipe out bigotry, racism and small-mindedness.
